Pepito's Story
After taking Pepito home at 14 weeks his owner Roxanne went to her veterinary clinic for a routine check-up. Her veterinarian told her about a six week trial of pet health insurance and since there was no cost for them to try it, her veterinarian suggested they sign up right away. Roxanne agreed with her veterinarian and decided to continue their coverage after their 6 week trial.
"We thought it would be a great way to prepare for the unexpected," explained Roxanne. "Little did we know we would soon need to use Pepito's pet health insurance plan."
Pepito developed diarrhea and starting becoming dehydrated. As a Chihuahua, Pepito weighs in at less than three pounds so Roxanne didn't want take any chances. She brought him to an emergency after hours clinic where they gave him fluids to restore his hydration levels. After waiting patiently and nervously for the results of a Parvo test, Roxanne was relieved to find out he had Giardia. Even though it's still a hard parasite to get rid of it's much better than having to treat Parvo.
"Although getting rid of the parasite was quite the ordeal (bleach cleaning, puppy baths and more), not having to deal with a much more serious disease like Parvo, was such a relief," states Roxanne. "The total cost of his veterinary treatment came to over $1,000.00. Since we had pet health insurance we didn't have to worry about the cost of the treatment."
Roxanne had looked into getting pet health insurance years ago for her cats; however, decided against it. She now regrets it, since one of her cats has been very sick and had over $8,000.00 worth of treatment in the past five years.
"We would recommend pet insurance to anyone thinking of getting a pet, regardless if it's a cat or a dog," said Roxanne. "Not having to worry about medical costs is such a relief, especially these days."
Pepito is now free of Giardia, and Roxanne is very thankful for pet health insurance!
